History

In 1966, floodlights were installed which were the first redevelopment of the stadium since opening. Castleford had plans in 2011 to move to Glasshoughton in order to build a new stadium at a cost of £12 million. However, plans were scrapped in 2012 before being reinstated in 2014.

The 4 Stands: North Stand, East Stand, South Stand and West Stand, make up the ground. The North Stand is a standing terrace and is where the atmosphere is largely made up of by the home fans. On the opposite side is the South Stand which is also a standing terrace usually used for away fans. This stand includes the supporters club, executive boxes and scoreboard.

The East Stand is the main stand of the stadium which has a capacity of 1,500. It includes the changing rooms, tunnel, club pavilion, bars and food outlet. The West Stand is similar to the North Stand although it has a TV gantry and commentary gantry.

Four International rugby league matches have taken place at Weldon Road which were Great Britain vs France, New Zealand vs Great Britain, the Cook Islands vs Scotland and New Zealand vs France. Two of these matches took place in world cups in 1970 and 2000 with the other two matches being played as part of tours.

Castleford Tigers have played nine tour matches against Australia and New Zealand between the years of 1933 and 1994. Castleford won 2 of these games with Australia winning 6 out of 8 encounters and New Zealand winning one match.
