History

Leinster play many of their Pro14 and Heineken Cup matches at the Aviva Stadium as there is a higher capacity than their other ground: the RDS Arena. The stadium has hosted the Pro14 (formerly known as the Pro12) final on 3 different occasions with Leinster winning there twice and Welsh club Scarlets winning the other. The Irish National rugby team play all of their home matches at the Aviva Stadium including Six Nations games and Autumn Internationals.

There have been over 50 International football matches played at the ground which is where the Republic of Ireland play their games. In 2014, UEFA announced that the Aviva Stadium would be one of the host venues for the 2020 European Championships.

Notable footballing events that have taken place at the ground are the annual FAI Cup final, 2011 Nations Cup, 2011 Europa League final, Dublin Super Cup and the Dublin Decider which was between Celtic and Liverpool due to both clubs having large fanbases in Ireland.

In 2012, an American Football game was held at the Aviva Stadium between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Navy Midshipmen. Another game was held in 2016 between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Boston College Eagles with the former winning 17-14. Another American Football game is scheduled to take place in 2021 between Nebraska and Illinois depending on Covid-19.

Some concerts that have taken place at the stadium include Michael Bublé, Neil Diamond, The Script, Madonna, Robbie Williams, Rihanna, AC/DC, Phil Collins and Billy Joel.
