Twickenham Stadium has a maximum capacity of 82,000 and is the home of the English National Rugby team. It was built in 1907 by architect John Bradley which has undergone many redevelopments over the past few years.

History

Located in the ground is the World Rugby Museum which has memorabilia and teaches the history of the global game, not just English rugby. It’s also the world largest rugby specific stadium, the second-largest stadium in the United Kingdom, the fourth largest stadium in Europe and the 30th largest stadium in the world.

Three Rugby World Cups have had games played at Twickenham with the 1991, 1999 and 2015 editions of the tournament all playing matches there. The 1991 and 2015 tournament finals were both held at the ground which were Australia vs England in 1991 and New Zealand vs Australia in 2015.

Other rugby union competitions that have had fixtures take place at the ground are the Middlesex Sevens, Premiership Rugby, Anglo-Welsh Cup, the annual Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge universities and European Rugby Champions Cup. Rugby league challenge cup finals have also featured regularly at Twickenham Stadium in the past.

Three American Football games have taken place at the stadium with NFL sides Los Angeles Rams beating the New York Giants in 2016 along with the Los Angeles Rams beating the Arizona Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns beating the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.

Many artists have headlined at Twickenham Stadium in the past including Rihanna, Iron Maiden, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Genesis, U2, Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones, The Police, Eagles, R.E.M., Eminem, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Ellie Goulding, Laura Pausini, Jennifer Lopez, Jessie J, John Legend & Timbaland.

Top Gear also recorded an episode of their TV show at the stadium where they played a game of rugby whilst driving Kia cars before the ground went for resurfacing.
